Pregnancy: Week 16

This week I am 16 weeks pregnant! I feel a lot more pregnant though - just because my belly has really decided to pop out. This week has been a lot of zoning out in my very last classes and a lot of studying for my last three finals. I am so excited to go to Texas I can almost hear the laughter and screaming of all of my little cousins and feel the hugs of my family. I leave the 6th for 2 and a half weeks!

This week, baby Hurst can hear! I've been listening to non-stop worship music in hopes that he or she likes it as much as I do. My cousin, Kathy, told me that the music that she listened to during her pregnancy reflected on the style of music that her girls liked after birth. Kathy listened to a Taylor Swift CD for almost her entire pregnancy in the car. After Kaycee, her daughter, was born, she would only calm down in the car when listening to T-Swift. I am determined to listen to different types of music, but mainly worship music by Misty Edwards, Hillsong United, etc... Anyway, our little nugget is already the size of an avocado and is 4 1/2 inches long (head to rump) and weighs 3 1/2 ounces. The eyes have moved closer to the front of the head and the ears are closer to their final position. Also, a strange fact that many of you might already know, but the baby has started growing fingernails and may need to be clipped right after he or she is born!

The baby's heart is pumping about 25 quarts of blood each day! Its amazing what a tiny heart can already do!

How far along? 16 weeks
Baby is the size of a: Avocado
Total weight gain: 9 pounds.. I keep going up and down
Maternity clothes? Maternity pants and shirts, but I'm still wearing some of my regular shirts.
Stretch marks? No
Sleep: Not as good - I've been trying to sleep on my side instead of my back, and it has been a hard transition. If anyone has an idea of how to make it easier, let me know!
Best moment this week: Finishing the last class of all time! I will have sporadic modules in the fall, but I'm finished with weekly classes for the rest of my masters!
Movement: Yes! I feel the baby squirming all the time, but I still can't feel the movement physically with my hand.
Food cravings: I've still been craving tomatoes, but I've also been wanting spicy asian food (which has been constant). Although I have had a pretty strong aversion to peanut butter this week. I can't even take the smell!
Miss Anything? I really miss my coffee this week. I'm studying for finals, and I didn't realize how much of a difference it makes with keeping me awake and attentive.
Gender: We found out!... just kidding (: We won't find out for a long time.
Labor Signs: No
Symptoms: I'm still having "morning sickness" or more like triggered sickness with smells, an empty stomach, and brushing my teeth.
Belly Button in or out? In
Wedding rings on or off? On
Mood? Mostly happy and a little stressed. I'm so excited that these are the last finals that I will ever take in my life, and I'm also stressed about those finals.
Looking forward to: Going to Texas on May 6th! Although I'm a little scared that Josh is going to be malnourished, but thankfully our friends said they'd help out with food for him (haha he needs the help).

So just to document my 1st dream about the baby, I had a dream about having a sweet baby girl. I was in the woods with Quentin and Michelle Manuel dropping them off for an engagement or party. We agreed to meet back there so I could take them home, but instead I went to a restaurant/movie theater with my dad. The movie we were watching was about a baby girl named Leah Michelle. Right then I went into labor and had the baby (for some reason I don't remember the actual labor itself). I was only 20 weeks pregnant in my dream, but somehow the doctors were wrong and the baby was full term. Apparently it was normal to have babies in a restaurant, because the owners had a birth certificate ready and were urging me to name the baby and fill it out. I was panicked, because Josh wasn't there and I couldn't remember a single name that we had agreed upon. So I named her Leah Michelle after the girl in the movie. Two days later, I finally found Josh and we decided to go back to the restaurant to rename our baby girl, Hope.

Anyway, it was kind of a weird dream, but I've heard of people having crazy pregnancy dreams. I just wanted to document mine to remember them for later! (:

Pregnancy: 15 Weeks

This week I am 15 weeks! Every week that I post I get excited for 2 reasons: I am one week closer to meeting my sweet daughter or son AND I love sharing this journey with my friends and family. With all of family being either in Texas, New Mexico, Colorado, or Missouri, this is a way for them to check up on me and stay in the loop with the development of our baby.

This week, baby Hurst is the size of a regular apple weighing 2 and 1/2 ounces. I can't believe she gained a whole ounce in one week! She measures 4 inches from head to toe. She can move and stretch out all of her limbs, and her legs are now growing to be longer than her arms. Her eye lids are still fused shut, but apparently she is sensitive to light. If I were to shine a light up to my belly, then the baby would move away from the light. Now I realize that I switched my gender pronouns, but I can't help but be excited about the baby being a girl even though I have such a strong feeling of the baby being a boy.

How far along? 15 weeks
Baby is the size of a: Red apple
Total weight gain: I lost another pound. I've been averaging 8 lbs over what I originally weighed beforehand baby hurst.
Maternity clothes? Maternity pants and tights. I'm busting out of my tighter shirts, but I can still wear the non-fitted ones.
Stretch marks? Nope - and I dread the day I say 'yes'
Sleep: Good
Best moment this week: Feeling the baby flutter was amazing, but my favorite moment this week was during worship with Josh's men's small group and their wives/girlfriends. It was an overwhelming feeling of love for my Savior and desire to be closer to Him.
Movement: YES!!!! I felt the baby move on the 20th! I laid there for about 20 minutes making sure that it was the baby that I was feeling, not something else. Josh can't feel it yet though. I can't wait until the movements are more apparent.
Food cravings: Tomatoes... in EVERY form. I've had whole tomatoes, V8, tomato soup, or salsa basically every day in abundance.
Miss Anything? I miss being able to dive for volleyballs during my games. I am so careful now, but I miss getting the clutch tips like I used to.
Gender: It's still a surprise, but I did wonder whether the baby was a girl or boy for about an hour this week.
Labor Signs: No
Symptoms: I've had morning sickness several times this week actually. I haven't had it in a couples of weeks, but I've learned to eat protein in the morning instead of just fruit. Its too light of a meal, and I get sick otherwise.
Belly Button in or out? In
Wedding rings on or off? On
Mood?: HAPPY! But I think that it is mostly the good weather keeping my spirits so high. The gardening has been good for my soul too.
Looking forward to: Being finished with class! This is my last week of classes before finals!

I have a funny story to share as an additional sidenote of the Symptoms question. This morning I made myself the best breakfast burrito, and I decided to eat it on the run as I was heading to school. I immediately figured out that it was a bad idea to eat it on the go. I wasn't even 2 miles out of Wilmore when I got sick. To say (the very) least, I got some on my passenger seat. At that point, I didn't have time to deal with it in order to get to class on time. I put newspapers over it to cover it up.

Then after school I went down to Mr. Sparkle in hopes that they had a self-vacuum and self-shampoo machine that I could use to clean the mess up. I explained to them that I only had a small-ish area on my passenger seat that I need to clean, and that it was because I was pregnant. The problem was I didn't have my debit card and I only had a limited amount of cash. The 3 guys went and got the guy above them to see what they could do. The "boss" said that he would do it for free! They cleaned the entire exterior of the car and vacuumed and shampooed the seat where the spot was. I gave him the $4 I had in cash and a PF Changs coupon for a free appetizer. It was a crazy day to say the least. Nice people really made my day today, and next time I go back I will pay it forward and tip big!

Pregnancy: 14 Weeks

I am 14 weeks! If you haven't noticed, I waited 5 days longer than my normal day to post a blog and pictures about the 14th week in this journey. When I got my first sonogram, the tech informed me that my due date is a few days later than I thought. It is actually October 16th! In order to stay on track I decided to just take pictures a few days later. In celebration of Spring, we decided to take several pictures by trees that were in full bloom of pink flowers.

This week, our baby is the size of a large lemon weighing in at 1 1/2 ounces and stretching out from toes to crown at 3 1/2 inches. He can now squint, frown, grimace, and even do the inevitable - pee. Our nugget can grasp and even suck his thumb. Notice that I keep mentioning "he" or "his?" I still think that its going to be a boy, but I promise I won't be disappointed AT ALL if the baby is a sweet little girl. (:

How far along? 14 weeks
Baby is the size of a: Large lemon!
Total weight gain: Back down to only 9 pounds gained.
Maternity clothes? Just some really awesome maternity pants from the Gap and Old Navy
Stretch marks? Nope
Sleep: Normal
Best moment this week: Going to the Red River Gorge. I didn't rock climb just to be cautious, but hiking and hammocking in such a serene setting really blessed my week.
Movement: Not yet
Food cravings: Juicy cheeseburgers
Miss Anything? This week I missed rock climbing. I did some research and I could have probably climbed with caution, but I didn't want to chance the pressure around my waist with the harness.
Gender: Still a surprise (:
Labor Signs: No
Symptoms: Acne
Belly Button in or out? In
Wedding rings on or off? On
Mood?: Happy and more energetic than the past several weeks!
Looking forward to: This weekend! Hopefully I will just be relaxing with my husband, and maybe we will go to the Lexington Farmer's Market. Its basically a party with great food, live music, and of course fresh fruits and veggies.

First Ultra Sound with Baby Hurst

Friday was such a rush! Josh was so excited when the ultra sound tech was getting ready, he didn't know whether to stand or sit. He was just as giddy as I was, so he moved his chair about 5 feet closer to me and to the monitor. She squirted the gel on my belly, and it was surprisingly heated and very soothing. I was expecting it to be slimy and shockingly cold! It didn't take long for us to see a perfect outline of OUR baby!

I must say that I've heard people talk about the overwhelming joy and love that you have for your child, but, in my case, there is no way to actually understand that until you experience it yourself.

I'm just going to refer to the baby as 'he' and 'him' for now, because I still think that its a boy and its easier to write with pronouns! He was waving both of his arms and clenched fists all around. His legs were straight up, but they were moving as if he were swimming. I could not believe that much movement was happening in my body and I couldn't even feel it!

There were times that the ultrasound tech got a really good picture, and I became overcome with laughter. She would have to probe again to find the same outline. I was so proud of his big football-helmet-like head and his perfect toes. We could actually see his little toes wiggling at one point.

Josh and I could not stop smiling as we practically skipped out of St. Joseph East's Imaging Center. The staff was excellent, and we had the best experience in all of about 20 minutes of being inside the building. God is so good, and I'm even more astonished at how detailed of an artist He is to make my baby (and all others) so intricately.

Week 13: Pregnancy

This week has been a lot of fun! Josh and I were supposed to run a half marathon this past Saturday, but I had to stop training 3 weeks ago due to fatigue and morning (all day) sickness. Josh finished the race in an hour and 49 minutes. I am so proud of him, and I can't wait to run one with him after baby Hurst is born! That night, we went on a night hike by the Kentucky river with a group of good friends, and sat around a fire pit and roasted marshmallows afterwards. To top it off, Easter was this weekend. Our pastor had an awesome message revolving around Christ's resurrection. For lunch last Sunday with ate with the men in Josh's men's group and their families, and for dinner we ate with the women in our "book club" and their husbands. It was truly a weekend of fellowship celebrating the reason for Easter.

This week, our sweet little peanut is forming his or her fingerprints. Their body is growing to catch up with the size of the head, which makes up 1/3 of body!

At our first OB appointment, God really showed up.  Our nurse graduated from Mercy Maternity Center in the Philippines where I went over Christmas to visit the Silveys. Her husband is also a student at Asbury seminary! It was cool to connect to someone who will be a part of such a big time in our lives.

How far along? 13 weeks
Baby is the size of a: peach, but alas there are no decent peaches in Kentucky at the moment. We sufficed with a smaller green apple that weighed just at .85 ounces, which is what baby Hurst weighs at! This apple seems to be way bigger than the baby, but actually, our baby is exactly the length (from toes to crown) the hight of this apple!
Total weight gain: 13!!! but honestly I think of 4 pounds of it has nothing to do with the baby..
Maternity clothes? Maternity pants and larger jeans. I'm wearing regular shirts and a few of my maternity shirts, because I think they are cute.
Stretch marks? Nope
Sleep: Sleep has been great!
Best moment this week: Hearing my baby's heart beat through a Doppler at our first OB appointment, and then seeing our baby in full action later in the week at our very first ultra sound! (blog coming soon with pics of that)
Movement: Not yet
Food cravings: Salsa, but thats normal for me.
Miss Anything? Sweet tea!
Gender: Still a surprise (:
Labor Signs: No
Symptoms: Acne and a little blockage in the bowels to put it nicely.
Belly Button in or out? In
Wedding rings on or off? On
Mood?: Happy!
Looking forward to: Gardening tomorrow morning! We have a workshop, and then we will plant in our plot at the Kalas community garden!
