Pregnancy: Week 20

I am 20 weeks this week, which is HALF WAY THERE! I can definitely tell a difference with my body size and how I am able to move around. I am starting to get the hang of sleeping on my side, which has allowed me to sleep a little bit more soundly. Poor Josh has had what I called the allergy-flu since I have been back in Kentucky. As many of my friends and family know, Josh was known for his snoring before we got married. I figured out on our wedding night that I could roll Josh on his side while he was sleeping on 2 pillows so that he wouldn't snore! It was magic. Because he has been sick, the magic is gone, and he has been snoring. Due to my intensive hours for my internship, sleep has been vital and sweet Josh has been sleeping on the couch the past two nights as to not wake me up. I'm hoping he gets better soon!

This week sweet baby Hurst is already 10 1/2 ounces and is 10 inches long. He is the length of a banana from head to heel! He is starting to produce meconium, which is, in my opinion, is a nice way of saying newborn poo. Meconium is a combination of amniotic fluid, mucus, skin cells, and other substances ingested in utero. The baby passes this in utero, during the delivery, or in his first diaper change. Thats really the big news in his development this week, but it's exciting to know that we are half way through pregnancy before we get to meet our little guy (or should I say girl?).

***Photo Credit: Josh Hurst. My husband took my pictures this week, because Kat went out of town to see her brand new nephew and family. Josh did a great job, and he was even patient with me while I asked him to take pictures over and over. Love him.

How far along? 20 weeks
Baby is the length of a: Banana - apparently the baby is not measured by length, not necessarily the size.
Total weight gain: 17 pounds! I made a big jump in the past two weeks. I guess our little guy had a growth spurt, or else eating out for lunch and dinner every day while I was in Texas made a HUGE impact on the scale. Either way I'm happy (:
Maternity clothes? Yes. I am basically only wearing all maternity clothes with the exception of a few normal shirts. Thanks to my parents (in-laws included), I am set up with a fully loaded wardrobe for the rest of the summer.
Stretch marks? No
Sleep: AMAZING!!! Since I have been home, I have slept so well.
Best moment this week: Seeing my husby after 2 and a half weeks being away from  him. He is a rarity that I cherish immensely.
Movement: I have actually physically felt that baby move for the first time this week. Literally 30 minutes ago I felt like the baby did a back flip or something. It actually startled me!
Food cravings: I have still craved lime ice, chicken broth, and spicy Thai food. In the past 4 days, I have only fulfilled my chicken broth craving. Don't worry, I never eat/drink chicken broth by itself. I always make sure its in a soup at least!
Miss Anything? I miss coffee this week again. I have started my amazing internship at Kids Can Do, a pediatric clinic, but it is around a 12 hour day for me with the commute, work hours, and lunch break. Coffee would be nice about now.
Gender: We still aren't finding out, but I am getting really curious after registering this past week for baby goodies. I have registered at Babies R Us, but we haven't made it to Target yet.
Labor Signs: No
Symptoms: No symptoms just normal exhaustion from over working myself at the internship
Belly Button in or out? In
Wedding rings on or off? On
Mood? I would say exhausted. I'm not used to waking up at 6am and not coming home until 7:30pm. Josh has been a great encourager for me the past two days.
Looking forward to: Sleeping in and relaxing over the weekend.

Pregnancy: Week 19

I am 19 weeks pregnant this week! I seriously cannot believe how fast this is all going. A couple of people have really noticed in the past two weeks that my belly has gotten bigger, and they are so right. I think when I get home at the end of the week, Josh is going to be surprised at how much the baby has really grown! Plus I'm just excited to get back and see him. 2 and a half weeks is so long to be away from him!! So this week because I have noticed the difference in my belly size, I've been putting a pillow underneath my belly when I lie on my side to relieve the weight a little. My mom showed me this trick, and it makes everything so much more comfortable.

This week our baby has grown to the size of a mango! She weighs about 8 1/2 ounces and measures 6 inches. Her sensory development is going nuts! Her brain is designating certain areas for smell, vision, taste, hearing, and touch. Her little hair is also sprouting on her scalp. I can just imagine little red fuzz growing around that tiny head! This makes me smile so much.

***Photo Credit: Terry Peak Photography This was a special shoot getting to have my pictures taken by my Dad. We not only got to bond all weekend, but we got to share his livelihood together - his photography.

How far along? 19 weeks
Baby is the size of a: Mango
Total weight gain: I haven't had the chance to weigh myself this week so I'm not sure... I'm guessing 11-12 pounds, because I feel heavier. I have no idea!
Maternity clothes? Yes! My dad just bought me some more awesome maternity clothes that I can't wait to bust out!
Stretch marks? No
Sleep: Not the best. I cannot wait to be back in my own bed in the not-so-hot weather. Even though we have the air conditioner and the fan on, I still feel like I am having a heat stroke every night!
Best moment this week: My two favorite moments this week involve deep conversation. I stayed up for several hours with my brother and sister-in-law just talking to them. Then I spent the next day and had dinner with my dad, and we also just had great conversation. I love getting to spend time with them so much!
Movement: Yes! I have felt more and more this week, and I know it'll be soon that I can feel it with my hand. I can't wait for that moment.
Food cravings: I have really craved chicken broth and lime ice this week. My usual cravings have also come back like spicy asian food and tomatoes.
Miss Anything? I really miss rough housing with my little cousin Zack. I normally chase him around, wrestle with him, and jump on the trampoline with him. We did play several rounds of Skip Bo. Love that little guy.
Gender: We still don't know the sex of the baby yet.
Labor Signs: No
Symptoms: Other than being tired often, I haven't had any symptoms. I did catch a cold though a few days ago, and I can't seem to fight it.
Belly Button in or out? In
Wedding rings on or off? On
Mood? Definitely a roller-coaster. With all the events going on with the funeral and family gatherings, I have laughed and cried harder than I have in a long time.
Looking forward to: Girls night out with my mom and my cousin, but I also cannot wait to be back in Kentucky with my babe.

Pregnancy: Week 18

I am 18 weeks pregnant this week! This entire week has been the most joy filled trip back to Texas. I have completely worn myself and little baby Hurst out by staying up at ungodly hours of the night and getting up early. Normally I'm not that hard on my body, but I haven't wanted to waste any time when there are so many good people to catch up with. I am so thankful for every one who has taken time out to meet with me and catch up. It fills my soul to know that so many of my friends still want to stay closely connected even though I live half way across the country. Most of what I've written about is pure happiness, but I've also been faced with grief with the death of a very close friend (which is the 2nd death of a friend in a span of 2 weeks). I am thoroughly in shock with the death of such a young and spirited life. My friend Jordan Watts lived a life that allowed God to show His raw unyielding talent through music and art. He was effortlessly gifted in any endeavor he tried his hand at: water color, painting, doodling, latte art, banjo, ukulele, and vocals. Although this isn't a happy time, I am still filled with joy knowing the tremendous influence he made on hundreds of lives as the face of Christ. I pray that my little one will represent Christ in any action that he or she does and leave a legacy that will always point back to Jesus.

My little one has been busy growing and developing this week. He is the length of a bell pepper, which is about 5 1/2 inches long (my bell pepper in the picture is a tad small). He weighs almost 7 ounces and has really started flexing his arms and legs. The ears are in their final position, but may not be proportionate to the head because they may be sticking out a little. According to my handy app, friends, and midwife, I technically should be able to get an ultrasound and find out the gender of the baby, but most of you know that Josh and I are not going to find out the gender until he or she is born!

***Photo Credit: Olive Tree Photography. Corie Williams took my pictures this week, because I'm visiting Texas. I am extremely grateful for her and her friendship! Go visit her Facebook page and website!

How far along? 18 weeks
Baby is the size of a: Bell Pepper
Total weight gain: 9-10 pounds - basically still the same
Maternity clothes? I'm wearing all baby bump pants and now my button up shirts are starting to become a little tight. I even bought some of these shirts a size up knowing I'd be bigger, but they are already becoming uncomfortable.
Stretch marks? No
Sleep: Ehh.. I've been sleeping semi-okay, but I think it's because Josh is in Kentucky and I'm Texas. Also Erin Davis, Abby Graham, Shannon Tumy, and Brittany Busch are to blame for keeping me up several hours past my normal bed time on two different nights! I was basically incoherent the following morning after each of those nights.
Best moment this week: I am really not sure if I can narrow it down to just one "moment." Seeing my mom, cousins, and their kids in person was something that never gets old. The twins are growing up so fast and Zack is so much fun to be around. He is full of energy, but he is also really learning how to build relationships and talk with people. I love hanging out with him. Then I went to my old stomping grounds at Texas Tech, and I think I have absolutely worn myself out trying to see my best friends and favorite people. Then on top of that I got to spend 4 days with my in-laws, and I was able to travel 2 hours to see my 2 high school besties and my grandparents! WHAT A WEEK!
Movement: I feel like I haven't felt the baby move any more than I did last week, but it's the same news I have to report - I can feel the baby move, but I can't feel it with my hand.
Food cravings: Cravings, related to pregnancy, have really been non-existent this week. I have craved the food at my favorite restaurants, but that is because I have the opportunity to eat at them this week!
Miss Anything? I did miss sandwich meat this week. I guiltily bought and ate a club sandwich (by myself with no witnesses). It was the best club I think I have ever ever EVER had. I decided that a half sandwich wouldn't do any damage.
Gender: It's still a surprise, but 3 girls said they think I'm having a girl and 2 said they think I'm having a boy.
Labor Signs: No
Symptoms: I haven't had any morning sickness at all this week! I have been a little tired, but I can deal with a "little."
Belly Button in or out? In
Wedding rings on or off? On
Mood? Better than ever.
Looking forward to: Seeing my brother, sister-in-law, Dad, Dallas Mitchell cousins, Swink family, and Borger Swink family. We are basically having an unofficial family reunion! Bring on the late night laughs and card games.

Pregnancy: Week 17

This week marks 17 weeks of pregnancy! I have gone through pretty drastic emotions of apathy towards my school work, extreme sadness leaving Josh (which he laughed because of how hard I cried), and complete joy being with my family. My hormones are out of control...geez. But I am so happy to be finished with my academic coursework for the rest of eternity and to have the next 3 weeks off before I start my summer rotation.

This week the baby's skeleton is actually changing from soft cartilage to bone. He is the size of a large onion and is 5 inches long and weighs 5 ounces. The umbilical cord is growing thicker and stronger. (It still freaks me out a little that I'm growing an entirely new organ - the placenta - to nurture my baby) Anyway, he is developing sweat glands, which is good because I have been working out like a crazy person.

How far along? 17 weeks
Baby is the size of a: Onion
Total weight gain: 9-10 pounds - basically still the same
Maternity clothes? Yes, and thank the Lord for them. Even my pants that I used to wear when I weighed 15 more pounds than I weigh now (when I came back from Spain) are uncomfortable. I can still wear them, but I want to kill the metal button every time I sit down.
Stretch marks? No
Sleep: Semi-good. I am still fighting the battle of sleeping on my side. I'll fall asleep on my side and wake up on my back.
Best moment this week: Finishing the last final of my entire school career!!! By my last exam, I was like "I'm making a baby, which is way cooler than making an "A" on this test." Also, eating real Tex Mex was a pretty significant moment - I'm in Texas now for the next 2 weeks.
Movement: I am still feeling the baby having a dance party in my belly, but I can't feel it yet with my hand.
Food cravings:Well, I keep forgetting to mention that I've been craving chicken broth (or any light broth) for the past 3 weeks. I eat a broth-based soup almost every other day.
Miss Anything? I miss wearing some of my cute dresses - they are way too tight or they don't hit in the right spot, so I can't wear them anymore. As far as foods, I've been pretty okay staying away from the "no list."
Gender: We still don't know, but I've gotten 3 messages/emails from friends saying that they think it's a girl and then the store owner at my favorite Midland Mexican food restaurant, Doña Anita's, said that she thinks it's a boy. I think I might take a poll of some sort.
Labor Signs: No
Symptoms: I was so happy to report that I haven't had any sickness at all this week..... until I got on an airplane. Let's just say that there was a lot of turbulence from the rain storm, and my tummy did not handle it well.
Belly Button in or out? In
Wedding rings on or off? On
Mood? Relaxed since my finals have been over with and so excited that I'm with my family in Texas.
Looking forward to: Just being here every day with my family. I have not been with my family since Thanksgiving and I'm just taking in every moment. Although I am looking forward to seeing my fellow Techsans when I get to Lubbock this week.
