Judah: 12 months

I think every parent and grandparent ask the question how? when it comes to age and birthdays. I am pretty basic in this area and am incredulously asking "HOW IS MY BABY ALREADY ONE?!" This year has whirled by. This date is significant for so many reasons - it has been a year since Judah graced us with his presence, but it is also my birth day. I remember so clearly all the details from his birth ( you can read that story here). It marks the day I officially became a stay-at-home-mom of two as well - a calling I never thought I would follow or fall in love with, but I LOVE being a SAHM.

Today marks a year that Judah has been exclusively breastfeeding (meaning he has never had formula)!! This is a huge feat for me as I have always struggled with supply and BARELY made it to 8 months with Shepherd. Not all women can easily breastfeed for as long as they want to - may that be that they need to work and don't respond to the pump as well as the baby, their baby doesn't latch/eat well, or milk production just doesn't keep up with baby's appetite. Breastfeeding is HARD. It requires a lot of sacrifice. For me it has meant a lot of getting up in the night. As much as I would love to sleep all the way through the night, I cherish holding a sleepy still Judah for 10 minutes. It has become such a routine to get up 1 or 2 times a night, it is my new normal. So when people keep asking me when I am going to "wean" him, the answer is "I don't know." I don't produce a ton and may dry up as I will be working for the next 12 weeks full time and will only get to feed in the morning and before bed time. For me, it isn't a burden, because I know what it feels like to want to continue breastfeeding and not be able to. Now that he is a year, he will get a mix of breast milk and cow's milk. Now that you know my heart and you've taken the time to read this far, ask me how breastfeeding is going instead of asking when I am going to stop breast feeding Judah. I would feel so loved through that question. (:

We celebrated Judah's birthday with family yesterday. His sweet top teeth are poking through. His gentle spirit is always present. He just loves life and everyone loves him, especially his big brother, Shepherd. They have been sleeping in the same room the past 4 months. Sometimes before they fall asleep at nap time or bed time, I hear them laughing at each other. I pray they always love and enjoy each other throughout life. Brotherhood is such an amazing gift.

How many months old? 12 months
Weight? 17 pounds 3 ounces
Doctor check-up? No check-ups for this pup.
Any teeth? His top two teeth and his right lateral incisor all came in at the same time, poor baby!
Sleep? I am not sure if it is the transition moving to Texas mixed with our Colorado vacation, but Judah has been getting up 2-3 times a night. He only nurses for 5-10 minutes and easily goes back to sleep, but he still gets up at 6:30am every morning no matter how late we put him to bed.
Feeding? We are still breastfeeding!!!  YAY! He will take a cup of milk, but he definitely prefers me over cold cow's milk.
Eating anything? The boy seriously eats everything in sight and tell you if he does or doesn't want something. When he doesn't want something, he shakes his head violently, but if he does want something he points and grunts. He was signing pretty well until this past 2 weeks when we have all gotten pretty lax about making him "use his words" to get what he wants. I'm hoping grandparents will help me on this when I start work.
Developmental milestones? He is finally walking. He predominately crawls, but stands ALL the time and takes 3-5 steps at a time.
Favorite toy? He likes everything. He got some toys yesterday for his birthday and I have a feeling he is going to love his dog pull-toy.
Speech and language? He has been saying "dog dog" over and over
Loves? He still loves to be worn with a baby carrier/wrap, which makes my heart so happy! He loves to just be interacted with. When we lay on the ground, look at him, and laugh, he loses his mind laughing and crawling all over us. He is such a cuddly baby!
Dislikes? He very much dislikes it when we lay him down to change his diaper. Looks like I will be potty training this little fella as soon as he starts walking, because I am not about forcing a baby to lay down while I strap on a diaper. Seriously, being in public changing a diaper while my kid is hysterically screaming is just not my game. SO I am all about toilet training early!

Judah: 11 Months

How many months old? 11 months
Weight? 18 pounds
Doctor check-up? No check-ups this month! He has been healthy and happy!
Any teeth? I CANNOT believe he still only has those two bottom teeth. I feel like he has been teething for a lifetime - drooling, gnawing on objects, and loving cold foods like frozen peas, carrots, and strawberries.
Sleep? So...He hasn't been sleeping through the night until I wake up, but he does sleep for 8 hours at a time. He usually wakes up around 4:30am. I nurse him and he goes back to sleep, but it is still annoying to get out of bed, nurse, then fall back asleep. I will do it for as long as it takes though, because honestly I LOVE breastfeeding Judah and I cannot believe we have made it this far! My goal is to nurse for a year, but that isn't my limit.
Feeding? Well, I answered a lot of this in the previous question. I normally feed Judah after he wakes up in the morning, after he wakes up from his morning nap, before his afternoon nap, before dinner, and just before he goes to sleep. Honestly, I just feed him when I read his signs that he is hungry. I am not a strict scheduler and that has seemed to really help my milk supply.
Eating anything? He eats just about everything, but he has recently gotten more opinionated when he doesn't want something or he is "all done" with his meal.
Developmental milestones? He stands all the time and even stands without pulling up on anything. He looks like a prairie dog when he stands then comes down to move/crawl. He makes me laugh. When we try to get him to take a step, he just laughs and falls to the ground intentionally. He will walk when he is ready and is basically telling us not to rush him!
Favorite toy? Recently he has loved his barn with all the animals. He mainly takes all the animals out, and then puts them all back on the shelves. He recently learned how cars roll on wheels. So he scoots around with a car in hand letting it roll on the floor like his brother.
Speech and language? He sporadically says "dada," "bye bye," "nigh nigh," and "sa bah" (for strawberry). I STILL CANNOT GET HIM TO SAY MAMA!!! Anywho, he signs, "bye," "hi," "all-done," milk," "orange," "strawberry," and "yay" (by clapping). When we ask "where is daddy?" He turns and finds Josh. He can intentionally give us open-mouthed kisses when we ask for kisses. His receptive language is way more extensive than his expressive language. Although, he is catching on to sign language quickly.

Judah: 10 months

How many months old? 10 months
Weight? 18 pounds
Doctor check-up? Josh took the boys to Judah's last checkup before we move and his last round of vaccines. He is healthy, but was in the 1st percentile for his height at 26 1/4" and 18th percentile for his weight. His head circumference was in the 23rd percentile at 44 1/4cm.
Any teeth? Still just the two front bottom teeth
Sleep? He sleeps through the night, but he regularly wakes up around 5:30am. I can nurse him and he will go back to sleep, but if he wakes up after 6am, Shepherd will wake up and not go back to sleep so then the whole house has to get up! We are still deciding whether to keep them in the same room or not when we get a bigger place and when I should take him out of his crib again. He has only been in his crib for 2 months, but he seems to like it.
Feeding? Nursing is the same and still going great. Occasionally I feel like he isn't getting enough, but he seems satisfied afterwards so that is good. I tried pumping during a few feeds this month as I was working and I had some extra pumped milk and I barely pumped 3.5-4 ounces! Either that is what makes him full or he is WAY more efficient than my pump!
Eating anything? He eats everything, but he LOVES oranges and strawberries. After he eats lunch and dinner, I normally let him have some fruit for dessert and he always devours it.
Developmental milestones? He has started perching and trying to stand every once in a while unassisted, but just laughs and falls if we try to stand him up. He claps, waves "bye bye," and shakes his head "no no no!"
Favorite toy? He just likes to take things "out." So he constantly takes all the diapers out of our basket, wipes out of the package, etc...
Speech and language? Starting to sign and we've established his first word as "da da" WAHHHH!! I tried my hardest for him to say mama and mean it. We say, "where's dada?" He turns and looks at Josh and says "da da." I mean...come on!!!
Loves? He loves you to chase him up the stairs. He will climb 3 or 4 stairs and wait for you to come after him. Then he will laugh hysterically and try to get up as many stairs as he can before you catch him. It is adorable and terrifying at the same time. He hasn't fallen down yet, but I hope that doesn't happen!
Dislikes? He has started hating getting his diaper changed, just like his brother. Normally I have to give him something to distract him while I change him.

Judah: 9 months

How many months old? 9 months
Weight? 17 pounds 2 ounces
Doctor check-up? No check ups for this month! Healthy and happy!
Any teeth? Still just the two front bottom teeth
Sleep? THANK THE LORD!!!! He finally slept through the night!!! I am so happy about this - seriously at that point of pulling my hair out.
Feeding? He still nurses often 4 to 5 times a day, but honestly I don't count and just read his cues as to when he is hungry. I always try to nurse before he gets actual food.
Eating anything? His eating habits are a dream to me after really struggling with Shepherd. He eats pretty much anything and feeds himself.
Developmental milestones? He is still only crawling, but he is now starting to cruise furniture. He won't walk with the walker. He is too distracted by all the fun nobs and buttons to actually walk with it. He would rather crawl around to play with the front side of it.
Favorite toy? He loves anything that makes an interesting sound, like paper, a plastic wrapper, the xylophone, maracas, etc...
Speech and language? He is extremely verbal, but still has no words.
Loves? He loves his brother even though Shepherd is so rough with him. I should tally one day how many times I tell him to not sit on him, hit him, let him go, and listen to his cries. It is a constant battle!
Dislikes? He doesn't like it when I walk away from him. He constantly crawls around and finds my legs to pull up on. When I am cooking or doing something where I can't hold him and have to move around, he cries his little heart out and lets me know how much his feelings are hurt.

Judah: 8 Months

(I know I took these pictures, but I can't find them so when I do I'll post them!)
How many months old? 8 months
Weight? 16 pounds 10 ounces
Teeth? He got his first two teeth finally! The bottom two have grown in, but aren't fully through.
Doctor check-up? None this past month
Sleep? We have transferred Judah from sleeping on a floor bed in his brother's room to sleeping in a pack-n-play in the living room. Then we upgraded him to his actual crib (I cannot believe it took 8 months for us to put his crib together #secondchild), then we moved that crib so that he could sleep with his brother in the same room again. Judah wakes up one or two times I night. He goes down at 7:30pm and usually wakes up around 2-3:30am and again around 5-6am.
Feeding? Nursing is great. He nurses every 3-4 hours or more if he wants.
Eating anything? He eats everything pretty much. Poor guy does not like super hot chicken curry no matter how much yogurt I put in it to take the spice out.
Developmental milestones? Vocalizes like crazy, but still no words. Crawling like a pro.
Favorite Toy? Loves to put everything in his mouth, so anything that has an unusual texture, he loves!
Speech and Language? He babbles saying things over and over like babababa or dadada, but they still don't have a meaning. He very much understands who mommy and daddy are. He lights up when he sees Shepherd and laughs at him.
Loves? He loves being in the water and doesn't like it when I take him out.
Dislikes? He still doesn't like his clothes getting changed, but he has let me know when he doesn't care for a certain food. He will throw it on the ground, but I will give him that same food the next day or the same week and he will eat it. So I don't know.

Judah: 7 months

How many months old? months
Weight? 15 pounds 14 ounces
Doctor check-up? Josh took Judah this time to his check up. He is 8th percentile for his height and 15th percentile for his weight.
Any teeth? Still no teeth.
Sleep? Since we traveled most of the last month, Judah either slept in the bed with me, in a floor bed or pack-n-play. He still hasn't slept through the night yet!
Feeding? Nursing has still been going well, and he still won't take a bottle. I ended up donating 85 ounces of breast milk to another mama for her 3 month old.
Eating anything? Judah eats just about everything. I don't give him processed foods, sugar, nuts, or honey yet, but he eats just about everything or at least chews on it with his gums.
Developmental milestones? Judah started crawling on Christmas day! Two days later he figured out how to sit up from a crawling position. Then on the 29th he pulled up using a bar bolted in to a wall built to pull up on. It worked, and the little man kept getting better at it as we stayed there several nights. Now is crawling like a pro to either get an object he wants or, better yet, find me!
Favorite toy? I don't think he has one in particular. He is the curious type. If there is something new around, he will find it and examine it.
Speech and language? He is still just babbling - No words yet. Recognition of his family is apparent. At any nursery or child care at gyms, he usually starts crying after 30 minutes if he doesn't see his mom, dad, or brother. Sometimes he bursts out crying when certain people hold him, but I am not sure what it is about those people. There doesn't seem to be a pattern.
Loves? He loves mommy to hold him. He wants to be around me at all times and loves face to face interaction. He LOVES bathtime. He loves to splash and now crawl around to get toys.
Dislikes? He hates changing his clothes all of a sudden. For some reason he cries every single time!
