Judah: 12 months

I think every parent and grandparent ask the question how? when it comes to age and birthdays. I am pretty basic in this area and am incredulously asking "HOW IS MY BABY ALREADY ONE?!" This year has whirled by. This date is significant for so many reasons - it has been a year since Judah graced us with his presence, but it is also my birth day. I remember so clearly all the details from his birth ( you can read that story here). It marks the day I officially became a stay-at-home-mom of two as well - a calling I never thought I would follow or fall in love with, but I LOVE being a SAHM.

Today marks a year that Judah has been exclusively breastfeeding (meaning he has never had formula)!! This is a huge feat for me as I have always struggled with supply and BARELY made it to 8 months with Shepherd. Not all women can easily breastfeed for as long as they want to - may that be that they need to work and don't respond to the pump as well as the baby, their baby doesn't latch/eat well, or milk production just doesn't keep up with baby's appetite. Breastfeeding is HARD. It requires a lot of sacrifice. For me it has meant a lot of getting up in the night. As much as I would love to sleep all the way through the night, I cherish holding a sleepy still Judah for 10 minutes. It has become such a routine to get up 1 or 2 times a night, it is my new normal. So when people keep asking me when I am going to "wean" him, the answer is "I don't know." I don't produce a ton and may dry up as I will be working for the next 12 weeks full time and will only get to feed in the morning and before bed time. For me, it isn't a burden, because I know what it feels like to want to continue breastfeeding and not be able to. Now that he is a year, he will get a mix of breast milk and cow's milk. Now that you know my heart and you've taken the time to read this far, ask me how breastfeeding is going instead of asking when I am going to stop breast feeding Judah. I would feel so loved through that question. (:

We celebrated Judah's birthday with family yesterday. His sweet top teeth are poking through. His gentle spirit is always present. He just loves life and everyone loves him, especially his big brother, Shepherd. They have been sleeping in the same room the past 4 months. Sometimes before they fall asleep at nap time or bed time, I hear them laughing at each other. I pray they always love and enjoy each other throughout life. Brotherhood is such an amazing gift.

How many months old? 12 months
Weight? 17 pounds 3 ounces
Doctor check-up? No check-ups for this pup.
Any teeth? His top two teeth and his right lateral incisor all came in at the same time, poor baby!
Sleep? I am not sure if it is the transition moving to Texas mixed with our Colorado vacation, but Judah has been getting up 2-3 times a night. He only nurses for 5-10 minutes and easily goes back to sleep, but he still gets up at 6:30am every morning no matter how late we put him to bed.
Feeding? We are still breastfeeding!!!  YAY! He will take a cup of milk, but he definitely prefers me over cold cow's milk.
Eating anything? The boy seriously eats everything in sight and tell you if he does or doesn't want something. When he doesn't want something, he shakes his head violently, but if he does want something he points and grunts. He was signing pretty well until this past 2 weeks when we have all gotten pretty lax about making him "use his words" to get what he wants. I'm hoping grandparents will help me on this when I start work.
Developmental milestones? He is finally walking. He predominately crawls, but stands ALL the time and takes 3-5 steps at a time.
Favorite toy? He likes everything. He got some toys yesterday for his birthday and I have a feeling he is going to love his dog pull-toy.
Speech and language? He has been saying "dog dog" over and over
Loves? He still loves to be worn with a baby carrier/wrap, which makes my heart so happy! He loves to just be interacted with. When we lay on the ground, look at him, and laugh, he loses his mind laughing and crawling all over us. He is such a cuddly baby!
Dislikes? He very much dislikes it when we lay him down to change his diaper. Looks like I will be potty training this little fella as soon as he starts walking, because I am not about forcing a baby to lay down while I strap on a diaper. Seriously, being in public changing a diaper while my kid is hysterically screaming is just not my game. SO I am all about toilet training early!
